30mm Contact Blocks for Push Buttons & Switches

Replacement 30mm contact blocks for industrial trash compactor push buttons and switches — the snap-in electrical-contact modules that actually open and close the control circuit. 1-NO, 1-NC, 2-NO, and 1-NO/1-NC configurations.

What this page covers

Contact blocks are the electrical workhorses inside a panel-mounted button or switch. The button or key actuates the contact block, which opens (NC = normally closed) or closes (NO = normally open) the control circuit. Most panel-mounted buttons can take one or two contact blocks stacked behind them.

When a control panel circuit fails intermittently, the contact block is usually the suspect — pitting, arc damage, or contact wear all degrade the switching reliability. Replacing the contact block (while keeping the button or switch body) is the most common compactor-panel repair.

How to choose

Match by configuration (1-NO, 1-NC, 2-NO, 2-NC, 1-NO/1-NC), electrical rating (10A at 240V AC is standard), and mounting style (snap-in to back of button).

Stock spare contact blocks — they're inexpensive and often the difference between a 5-minute fix and a multi-hour repair.

In stock options

  • 1-NO (Normally Open)Single contact that closes when actuated. Most common for cycle-start.
  • 1-NC (Normally Closed)Single contact that opens when actuated. Common for cycle-stop.
  • 2-NO (2 × Normally Open)Two NO contacts in one block — for parallel circuits.
  • 2-NC (2 × Normally Closed)Two NC contacts — for safety circuits.
  • 1-NO/1-NC (Combination)One of each — for complex control logic.
  • Heavy-duty rated blocksHigher current ratings for direct motor switching.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between NO and NC contact blocks?

NO (Normally Open) — the contact is open at rest and closes when the button is pressed. NC (Normally Closed) — the contact is closed at rest and opens when pressed. Use NO for actions (start, jog); NC for safety (stop).

Are 30mm contact blocks brand-interchangeable?

Mostly. Snap-in 30mm contact blocks follow industry-standard dimensions and electrical specs. PRT contact blocks fit Allen Bradley, Schneider, Eaton, and most other 30mm button systems.

How many contact blocks can mount behind one 30mm button?

Most buttons accept up to 2 contact blocks stacked. Heavy-duty buttons can accept 3-4. Verify with the button manufacturer's spec.

How do I know if a contact block has failed?

Use a multimeter — verify the contact opens and closes cleanly when actuated. Pitted or arced contacts have visible discoloration on the contact points. Replace at the first sign of intermittent operation.
