Three Phase Compactor Motors

Replacement three phase electric motors for industrial trash compactors. 5HP to 25HP at 208V, 230V, and 480V three phase. NEMA TEFC enclosures standard. For stationary, self-contained, and heavy-duty industrial compactor applications.

What this page covers

Three phase motors run the vast majority of full-size industrial compactor installations — every stationary compactor over 5 yards, every self-contained compactor, every industrial waste-transfer-station setup. The standard horsepower range (5-25HP) covers everything from small stationary commercial to heavy-duty industrial cycling.

PRT three phase motors are NEMA TEFC with standard frame sizes (182T, 184T, 213T, 215T, 254T) used across compactor brands. They drop into Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, Harmony, SP Industries, and most other industrial compactor mounting locations.

How to choose

Match by horsepower (5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25HP), voltage (208V, 230V, 480V), frame size (NEMA 182T, 184T, 213T, 215T, 254T), and shaft configuration (close-coupled to pump or foot-mount with belt drive).

For older compactors with discontinued OEM motors, PRT can recommend modern equivalents that drop into the existing pump assembly. Frame sizes are largely standardized across motor brands.

Three phase motor sizes

  • 5HP three phaseSmallest three phase compactor motor — for compact stationary units.
  • 7.5HP three phaseMid-size stationary commercial compactors.
  • 10HP three phaseMost common — full-size stationary commercial compactors.
  • 15HP three phaseSelf-contained compactors and heavy industrial cycling.
  • 20HP and 25HP three phaseHeavy-duty industrial, transfer stations, fast-cycle applications.
  • Frame sizes 182T-254TStandard NEMA frame range for compactor motors.
  • 208V, 230V, 480V configurationsStandard industrial voltage options.

Frequently asked questions

What three phase voltage does my compactor motor need?

Match the motor to your building's three phase electrical supply. Modern commercial buildings are typically 230V or 480V; older buildings may be 208V. Verify with an electrician — three phase voltage isn't always visually obvious.

What's the most common compactor motor horsepower?

10HP at 230V or 480V three phase. That covers most full-size stationary commercial compactors. 15-20HP is common for self-contained and heavy-duty industrial; 5HP is for small stationary units.

Are PRT three phase compactor motors compatible with Marathon and PTR pumps?

Yes. NEMA frame sizes are standardized — a 184T three phase motor mounts to any compactor pump assembly designed for a 184T motor, regardless of original brand.

Can I run a 480V motor on 230V three phase?

Only if it's a dual-voltage motor wired for 230V. Single-voltage 480V motors will burn out on 230V supply. Check the motor's data plate before installation.
