D-Series Heavy-Duty Dumpster Lids

PRT's D-series is our heavy-duty line of dumpster lids — reinforced HDPE, thicker profile, and tighter hinge tolerances for high-volume routes and demanding commercial applications. Available in front-load and rear-load configurations, in colors that match Wastequip, JV Cram-a-lot, and more..

What this page covers

The D-series exists because some routes destroy standard S-series lids in months. Construction sites, large multifamily complexes, food-service compactors, and aggressive recycling routes all chew through lighter lids. The D-series adds material thickness, reinforcement ribs, and stronger hinge attachment points.

Like the S-series, D-series lids ship in front-load and rear-load configurations. The trade-off is weight: D-series lids are noticeably heavier, which most operators consider a feature (better seal, less flap in wind) but worth noting if you're hand-replacing many lids at once.

How to choose

Choose the D-series over the S-series when your container is in any of: a high-volume route, an abusive environment (construction debris, sharp loads), a windy location where lid flap is a problem, or a setting where lid theft or vandalism is a concern.

If you're not sure whether your route needs D-series or whether S-series is sufficient, PRT customer service can recommend based on your container's failure history. Most operators in waste-industry trade groups standardize on D-series for routes with documented lid-failure-per-quarter rates above industry average.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use D-series instead of S-series lids?

Use D-series for high-volume routes (multiple pickups per week), abusive environments (construction debris, food-service compactor receivers), windy locations, and any container that's been replaced more than twice in 12 months for lid failure.

Are D-series lids fully compatible with S-series containers?

Yes. D-series and S-series share the same outer dimensions and hinge mounting pattern — you can upgrade an S-series-lidded container to a D-series lid without modifying the container.

How much heavier is a D-series lid compared to an S-series?

About 20–30% heavier depending on size. For 6 and 8-yard lids, the difference is significant enough that you may want to coordinate replacement with regularly-scheduled service.

Do D-series lids cost more?

Yes, typically 30–50% more than the equivalent S-series. Most operators recoup the difference in 6–12 months through reduced replacement cycles.
