Compactor Latches & Door Latch Replacements

Replacement latches for industrial trash compactor doors and access panels — slam latches, hook latches, lock-bar latches, and complete latch assemblies. OEM-compatible with Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, Harmony, and SP Industries compactors.

What this page covers

Latches see constant impact and cycling on a working compactor. The chamber door slams shut every cycle; access panels get pried open and re-latched daily; lock bars take direct hits from collection trucks. Latches bend, springs lose tension, hooks wear — and when one fails, the compactor either won't seal properly or won't open for service.

PRT stocks the most-replaced industrial compactor latches: slam latches (spring-loaded, automatic engagement), hook latches (manual engagement, secure closure), and lock-bar latches (high-security applications). All in OEM-equivalent specs.

How to choose

Identify by latch style (slam, hook, lock-bar), the door or panel it serves (chamber, access, hopper), and mounting pattern.

Send PRT a photo of the existing latch and the door/panel it's mounted to — we can identify most industrial latches on first look.

Frequently asked questions

How long do compactor door latches last?

Slam latches typically last 5-10 years; the spring is usually the first thing to fail. Hook latches last longer because they don't see continuous spring stress.

Are PRT compactor latches OEM-compatible?

Yes. PRT latches use OEM-spec mounting patterns and dimensions. They drop into Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, Harmony, and SP Industries compactor latch locations.

Can I replace just the latch spring instead of the whole latch?

Often yes. PRT stocks replacement springs for the most common slam-latch designs. If the latch body is in good shape, a spring replacement extends service life.

Are magnetic safety latches required by OSHA?

Industrial compactor chamber doors must have safety interlocks under ANSI Z245.5 — but the interlock can be a separate safety switch rather than a combined latch+switch. Check your local AHJ requirements.
