A PLC is the digital brain of a modern compactor — it reads input signals (limit switches, photo eyes, pressure switches, operator buttons), runs the programmed cycle logic, and drives outputs (motor contactors, solenoid valves, indicator lights). Modern PLCs handle this with deterministic timing and built-in diagnostics that relay-logic systems simply can't match.

PRT supplies pre-programmed PLCs for direct PLC-to-PLC replacement on PLC-equipped compactors, and full PLC retrofit kits for older relay-logic compactors. Retrofits typically extend compactor life by 10+ years and add features (cycle counters, fault diagnostics, remote monitoring) that the original system didn't have.

How to choose

For direct PLC replacement, provide the compactor make/model and the original PLC's part number — PRT will match the platform (Allen Bradley MicroLogix or Siemens S7) and pre-load the cycle program. For retrofit, send the compactor's electrical schematic and we'll quote a complete kit.

If you operate multiple compactors of different brands, standardizing on one PLC platform (typically Allen Bradley) simplifies maintenance and spare parts inventory. PRT customer service can recommend retrofits that consolidate your fleet to one platform.
