Lid hardware is the most under-stocked item in most waste-operations parts inventories. The lids themselves get attention because they're visible and they're expensive; the hardware fails just as often and is dramatically cheaper. A standing inventory of hinges and pins eliminates field delays.

How to choose

Order hardware by the lid line it serves (S-series, D-series, or specialty) and the container size. Hinge geometry varies between lid lines; using the wrong hinge will cause early failure.

Most operators benefit from a standing stock of the most common hinge SKU and a few complete kits. PRT customer service can recommend the right inventory based on your fleet composition.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I replace dumpster lid hinges?

Inspect at every container service visit. Replace when you see visible pin elongation, bracket cracks, or any free play between the lid and the container rim. Typical service life is 12–24 months in standard commercial use.

Are PRT lid hinges compatible with non-PRT lids?

Most major manufacturers (Wastequip, JV Cram-a-lot, and more..) use the same hinge geometry as PRT. Provide the existing hinge dimensions and we'll confirm fitment.

What's in a complete lid hinge kit?

Hinges (left and right), pins, mounting brackets, bolts, washers, and torque specs. Everything to replace both sides of a standard dumpster lid in one SKU.

Do you stock vandal-resistant hinge hardware?

Yes. Tamper-resistant pin configurations (one-way bolts, security-headed pins) are available for high-vandalism routes. Specify when you order.
