Heavy-gauge steel dumpster lids for industrial, abusive, and fire-risk environments where HDPE won't survive. Standard steel and UL fire-rated options. Custom dimensions available.
Steel lids exist for the small but important set of applications where plastic isn't an option: industrial routes with hot debris, fire-risk environments (welding shops, metal fabrication, restaurants disposing of fryer oil), and abusive routes where vandalism or impact destroys HDPE in weeks.
PRT stocks heavy-gauge steel lids in standard dumpster sizes and fabricates custom dimensions to order. UL fire-rated options are available for hazardous-waste and AHJ-regulated applications.
Choose steel over HDPE when any of: routes regularly include hot debris (>200°F), fire-risk is documented (insurance requirement, AHJ mandate), vandalism destroys plastic lids, or the container is in an industrial setting where the visual standard is metal.
Steel lids are 3–5x the weight of equivalent HDPE. Plan for two-person installation on anything above 4 yards.
Three common cases: hot-debris routes (restaurants, metal fabrication), fire-rating mandates (your insurance or AHJ requires UL-rated lids), or extreme abuse (vandalism, demolition debris) that destroys plastic in under 60 days.
Standard steel lids are not certified. PRT also stocks UL fire-rated steel lids for applications that require certification. Specify the rating when you order.
Typically 3–5x the weight of an equivalent HDPE lid. A 4-yard steel front-load lid weighs around 60–80 lbs; the equivalent HDPE weighs 15–20 lbs. Plan for two-person installation.
Painted steel lids will rust at the edges over 5–10 years in outdoor service. Galvanized steel lids resist corrosion much longer — recommended for coastal or high-humidity environments.
