Operator controls are how the human starts and monitors the compactor cycle. The two main styles are hand-held pendants (cable-connected box with cycle-start, cycle-stop, and emergency-stop buttons) and panel-mounted control stations (fixed buttons on the compactor or remote operator station). Both fail predictably from cable damage, button wear, and weather exposure.
PRT stocks complete operator pendants and individual replacement components (buttons, contact blocks, cable, connectors). The standard pendant is a 15-foot cable with three buttons (start, stop, e-stop); longer cables (25, 35, 50 feet) and custom button configurations are available on order.
How to choose
Match the pendant by cable length, button configuration (start/stop/e-stop minimum, with optional cycle-select for multi-mode compactors), and connector style. PRT customer service can recommend based on your compactor model and operator-station location.
If your existing pendant cable is too short for a comfortable operator position, upgrading to a longer cable is usually the most useful single change — operators are more likely to use the e-stop when they don't have to dive for it.

How do I replace the cable on an operator pendant?
Most pendants use a screw-terminal connection at both ends — the pendant box and the compactor's control panel. Disconnect, replace the cable, and reconnect. PRT stocks standard 4-conductor and 6-conductor pendant cable in 50-foot rolls.
Can I upgrade my pendant to a wireless remote?
Yes. PRT stocks 2.4 GHz wireless remote operator controls for compactors — particularly useful in large facilities where the operator station is far from the compactor. Range is typically 100-200 feet.
What's the difference between an operator pendant and a panel-mounted control station?
A pendant is hand-held and cable-connected — the operator carries it. A panel-mounted control station is fixed at a specific operator position. Both run the same cycle logic; choice is ergonomic preference.
