Complete Automated Tarp Systems for Refuse Trucks

Complete automated tarp systems for refuse and roll-off trucks — drop-in replacement systems and new-installation kits. Electric, pneumatic, and mesh-arm configurations. Compatible with Pioneer, Roll-Rite, Aero, Donovan, and Mountain Tarp.

What this page covers

Complete tarp systems are sold as kits — everything you need to add automated load coverage to a refuse truck or roll-off truck, or replace a worn-out existing system. The kit includes the tarp fabric, mechanical arms (or mesh-arm assembly), pivot hardware, drive motor or pneumatic actuator, and all mounting hardware.

PRT stocks systems for the most common truck types: refuse body trucks (Heil, McNeilus, Curotto Can), roll-off trucks (Galbreath, Stellar), and dump trucks. Most kits ship in 1-2 weeks; standard sizes are quicker.

How to choose

Match the system to the truck by bed type, bed dimensions, and power source (electric, pneumatic, manual). PRT customer service can recommend the right system based on your truck model.

For new installations on trucks without existing tarp systems, plan for 1-2 days of qualified shop time. Drop-in replacements on existing tarp installations are usually 4-8 hours.

Complete tarp system options

  • Electric automated tarp systems12V motor-driven, most common for refuse trucks.
  • Pneumatic tarp systemsAir-driven, for trucks with existing air systems.
  • Mesh-arm tarp systemsSpring-loaded mesh-arm style, common on aggregate and waste haulers.
  • Refuse body truck kitsFor Heil, McNeilus, Curotto Can refuse bodies.
  • Roll-off truck kitsFor Galbreath, Stellar roll-off trucks.
  • Custom-size kitsFor non-standard bed dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

Electric or pneumatic tarp system — which is better?

Electric for most refuse and roll-off applications — cleaner installation, controllable from cab, and works on trucks without air systems. Pneumatic when the truck already has plumbed air (common on dump trucks).

How long does a complete tarp system installation take?

1-2 days for a new installation; 4-8 hours for drop-in replacement on an existing tarp system. Most operators schedule installation during off-shift periods.

Are PRT tarp systems compatible with Heil and McNeilus refuse bodies?

Yes. Standard PRT tarp kits fit Heil DuraPack, McNeilus Atlantic, and most other refuse body designs. Provide truck model for confirmation.

What's the typical service life of a complete tarp system?

10-15 years for the mechanical components. Tarp fabric is replaced more frequently (1-3 years) but the system structure lasts much longer.
