Compactor Power Units & Hydraulic Power Units

Replacement and complete hydraulic power units for industrial trash compactors. Single phase and three phase configurations, OEM-compatible with Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, Harmony, and other major compactor brands. All power units include a 15-foot control pendant standard.

What this page covers

The power unit is the heart of an industrial trash compactor — it's the motor-and-pump assembly that drives the ram cylinder, pressurizes the hydraulic system, and runs all the cycle controls. When a compactor stops working, the power unit is the first thing to check. When a compactor is past economic repair, replacing just the power unit is often the cheapest path back to service.

PRT supplies power units in both single phase (110-240V) and three phase (208-480V) configurations, in horsepower ratings from 5HP to 20HP, sized for the most common compactor applications. All power units include the motor, pump, reservoir, control valve assembly, and a 15-foot pendant control standard.

How to choose

Match the power unit to your compactor by three specs: voltage and phase (single phase for small commercial installations, three phase for larger industrial setups), horsepower (5HP for vertical and small stationary; 10HP for most stationary compactors; 15-20HP for self-contained and heavy-duty applications), and OEM compatibility (Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, etc.).

If you're not sure of the original power unit specs, the compactor's data plate (usually inside the control panel door) will list voltage, phase, and HP. PRT customer service can confirm compatibility before you order.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know what horsepower power unit my compactor needs?

Vertical compactors and small commercial stationary units typically use 5HP. Most full-size stationary compactors run 10HP. Self-contained and heavy-duty industrial compactors run 15-20HP. The original power unit's data plate is the most reliable spec source.

What's the difference between single phase and three phase power units?

Single phase is standard residential and small-commercial power (110V or 220V). Three phase is industrial power (208V, 230V, or 480V) used in commercial buildings, manufacturing, and most stationary compactor installations. The two are not interchangeable — verify your building's electrical supply before ordering.

Are PRT power units OEM-compatible with Marathon and PTR compactors?

Yes. PRT power units use OEM-spec bolt patterns and electrical connections, designed to drop into Marathon, PTR, Wastequip, Harmony, and most other major compactor brands.

How fast does PRT ship a complete power unit?

Most in-stock single phase and three phase configurations ship same day or next business day. Specialty configurations (480V high-HP, custom voltage) may ship in 2-3 business days.
