Safety interlock switches are the difference between a code-compliant compactor and one that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. They confirm that the chamber door is closed before a cycle starts, that guards are in position, and that no part of the operator is in a pinch zone. When one fails, the compactor must be removed from service until repaired — and the replacement switch must meet the same reliability spec as the original.

PRT stocks safety interlock switches rated to OSHA and ANSI Z245.5 standards. Most are mechanical key-actuated or solenoid-actuated, with hardwired fail-safe contacts that signal the control system the instant a safety condition isn't met.

How to choose

Identify the safety switch by its function (door interlock, guard interlock, hopper sensor) and its electrical specification (contact ratings, fail-safe design). The compactor's safety schematic will list the OEM part number; PRT can match equivalent ratings.

Do not substitute a generic interlock switch for an OEM-spec safety switch. The reliability and fail-safe contact design is what makes a safety switch a safety switch — generic limit switches do not meet the same standard.
